Varney Named New HTHS Varsity Football Coach

We are pleased to announce the selection of Tennyson Varney as the next head varsity football coach of Hamilton Township High School, pending Board of Education approval.


“We had more than 50 excellent candidates apply to lead our football program,” Hamilton Local School District Superintendent Mark Tyler shared. “Tennyson is a product of this community, graduated from Hamilton Township High School, and has been a coach and coordinator with us in the past. We are confident in his ability to lead and develop our student-athletes, both, academically and athletically.”

Varney’s coaching accomplishments include:
  • Head Coach – Grove City High School (2017-2019)
  • Head Coach – Franklin Heights High School (2014-2016)
  • Grew participation numbers throughout the program, football student-athletes increased their school attendance rate, and players became academically eligible.
  • Ohio High School Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year (2016)
  • Division II State Coach of the Year
  • Central District Coach of the Year
  • OCC Capital Coach of the Year
  • Region 10 Coach of the Year
  • Ohio North vs. South All-Star Classic Coach
  • CDFCA Coach of the Year
  • Earned first playoff win in school history
  • Coached six All-Ohio athletes
  • Offense averaged 35.7 points per game
  • Offense broke all school records
The district will coordinate an opportunity for the players and community to meet with Coach Varney in the very near future.
